September 2011 Minutes
- Labour Day Ride
- We met early Saturday morning for Breakfast and were on the road by 8:15 with 3 bikes and one trike.
Troy and Peggy Robins, Jack and Kay Wilson, Katharine Kane, Wayne and Laurie Gott
We crossed the bridge into Michigan around 1pm and managed to get as far as Au Gres Michigan the 1st night.
We made it as far as Espanola the 2nd night and danced with Mother Nature all the way. There was some rain, but never really got wet. The weekend started out very hot, and ended quite cool.
Altogether, we managed to travel about 1900 km/1200 m. in the 3 days.
The scenery was great, the roads were good and the company was fantastic.
- Ride of the Flags
-
Many bikes gathered at Clare´s Fenwick.
There where at least 5 members in the procession.
I´m not sure how many bikes there were, but we must have stretched out at
least 2 km.
The ride wasn´t long, but there is something about being in a group of so many
bikes, even if many of them had been extremely loud.
The ride ended at the Welland County Motorcycle Club and Track.
There was food and drink available and a couple of racers going around the
dirt track, raising quite a bit of dust.
- Memorial Ride
-
After the meeting is over we will form up and head out for our memorial ride.
This is an annual ride in memory of all the past members and family that are nlonger with us.
Our chapter had designed a pin in memory of past members and the pin states
We Remember Heavens Riders
Starting in 2005 the 3rd Sunday in August had been declared Heavens Riders Day,
in Canada.
I don´t know why this event has moved to Sept., but I suspect that due to vacations and summer time there would be more members available in Sept.
- ON-N Colour Run
- is next weekend and I know many of our members are attending.
I haven´t been to this event yet, I know it´s very popular. I hope to hear some
details from the members that attended at our next gathering.
- PA Chapter Visiting Niagara Falls
-
There are about 7 bikes/trikes and 12 riders heading to Niagara Falls from PA
next weekend.
We have been invited to join them sometime during their visit.
Currently their agenda has them at the Peace Bridge around noon on Friday.
They are eating Friday night at the Rain Forest Café
I´m planning to join them on Saturday while they tour the area. Currently their
plan for supper is Dave & Busters, but I have suggested the buffet at the Casino.
Please let me know if anyone would like to join this group over the weekend. I´m
very aware that many will be off to North Bay.
- Waterford Pumpkin Festival
-
This event is on the same weekend as our next gathering.
My first ever group ride with the Chapter was to this event 5 years ago and I
would like to go again.
There are many things going on all weekend, but the Antique Tractors and the
Show and Shine are scheduled for the Sunday. My plan is to head there right after our gathering that Sunday Morning.
- Christmas Pot Luck
I have already booked the Moose Hall for Saturday Dec. 3rd, to provide plenty of
notice for the busy Holiday Season
As usual it will be a Pot Luck Supper. The Chapter will provide the Turkey and
fixings. Anyone willing to assist in the preparation of this would be greatly
appreciated.
Unfortunately, Laurie and myself aren´t great talkers. Any assistance in gathering
items for a Chinese Auction would also be extremely appreciated.
- Memorial Pin and Ride
-
We have a number of these pins, for anyone whdoesn´t have one. Just let us
know if you would like to purchase one. The cost is $5 each.
I have not been a member that long and have only been on 1 or 2 of the original
rides.
- We will make our way to Fort Erie and stop at the Memorial park near the
Railroad Museum.
- Then we will make our way down the Niagara Parkway to Niagara on The Lake
and along Lakeshore Road to Port Weller.
- We will be stopping at Happy Rolph´s to attend the 911 Memorial.
- I think that this would be very appropriate as it has been 10 years since this terrible
event occurred.
- We hope to stop at MJ Munchies for something to eat and drink.
- Ride Committee
- Sorry to raise the issue, but the riding season for most of us will be soon coming
to an end.
If there is anyone interested in leading a ride or planning a weekend for next year,
we will try to get together soon.
Plans can be discussed over a meal. Location to be named shortly.
- Phone tree Volunteers
-
As was mentioned at last months meeting, I would like to start up a Phone Tree.
Some members may not have email and other don´t read them as often as others
Anyone willing to assist with this item please let me know.
I will be putting together a phone list, which I will maintain.
Anyone that doesn´t want to be called, will be removed from the list.
- Non Riding Months Activities
-
Dinner / pot luck (winter months). How many would be interested in joining the
Moose at one of their events? Ex. - Halloween or New Years Eve?
Any other suggestions for other non-ride events or activities are also welcome.
Next gathering will be October 16th 2011
